How to Alter A Composition Book

*** This post contains affiliate links ***

I love buying composition books at the store because they are such a good deal...especially when you buy them during the back-to-school sales. The problem is that they are not that attractive to look at, so I decided to use some of my crafting supplies I had on hand to alter them to make them look a little nicer.

When you alter these composition books, you can pick a theme that you want (travel, gratitude, inspiration, art, etc) to decorate these books.  These are perfect as birthday gifts, wedding gifts, add to teacher appreciation packages, back-to-school supplies for the kids, summer camp notebooks, dream journals, and they are fun for kids to decorate at parties or youth activities.

Kids Art Project - Paint A Birdhouse

One of my favorite places to shop is craft stores.  I love finding new supplies and especially looking at the bargain area to see what great deals they have.  A few weeks ago my older daughter saw this wood birdhouse and wanted to bring it home to paint it.  I thought it would be a fun craft for her to work on during the summer, so this week I got it out for her.  She loved looking through all of my paints to pick out bright, fun colors.

Wordless Wednesday - Sundance and Alpine Loop

"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." ~ Vincent Van Gogh

Utah is a mountain desert. From my visit to Capitol Reef, you can definitely see how dry it is in parts of the state.  We took a short day trip and drove up to Sundance and over the mountain.  It was lush, green, and beautiful.

Perfect Grilled Corn on the Cob

sweet and delicious corn on the cob

Fresh fruits and vegetables are one of my favorite parts of spring and summer. At our house we love corn on the cob. Especially the early ears that are so sweet and full of flavor. For years I've been making corn on the cob on the stove, boiling it in water, but it always seemed a bit soft and the flavor was cooked out. This year I decided to try grilling it on our gas grill.  Wow! It was amazing. Perfectly done, still crisp and flavorful. The butter and seasonings cook with the corn and it really enhances the flavor.

DIY Decorated Light Switch Cover

**** This post may contain affiliate links ****

Sometimes it's nice to do a quick, fun project that is budget friendly.  I thought decorating the light switch covers would be a nice way to add a little color to our rooms.  I started in what used to be the bedroom for my youngest daughter.  She moved rooms and now it is the play room/guest room.  We moved her pictures, so the room has been kind of bare.  The walls are a periwinkle color, not quite blue but also not purple.  My daughters had a fun time helping me look through the different scrapbook paper I have and decide on which one we would use to decorate the light switch cover.

Are you ready to find out how to do this easy-on-the-budget project for yourself?  Alright, let's get down to it!

Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

I have a tasty ice cream recipe to share with you today, an ice cream maker giveaway sponsored by some great bloggers, and a roundup of  25 homemade ice cream recipes.  I hope you are ready for some ice cream goodness on this wonderful Monday!

Last summer I went to the local farmer's markets almost every Saturday morning.  I love to see the fresh vegetables and fruits that are offered.  I bought quite a few peaches, blackberries, apricots, and cherries that I made into jams, froze for smoothies, and made into ice cream.  This recipe for Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream was our favorite from last year.  Our farmers market just opened and they had some beautiful and tasty organic cherries.  I had to buy them for us to snack on and make this ice cream again.  It turned out wonderful.  I thought I would share the recipe with you so you can enjoy this frozen treat on a warm summer day.

Heidi's Tangy Pork Chops

This recipe is one of my favorite slow cooker recipes.  Many years ago when we lived in Charleston, South Carolina, a family invited us over for dinner.  Our friend, Heidi, made these tangy pork chops for us and I had to get the recipe from her so I could make them again for my family.  She called them Tangy Pork Chops and I added her name to the recipe.  Our family loves these because they are so tender and flavorful.  The sauce is like a sweet and sour sauce, but not quite as thick.

Blog Income, Stats, & Goals - Month 5

**** This post contains affiliate links ****

Technically I started my blog last fall, but it was in January that I decided that I wanted to focus on blogging regularly and try to grow my blog.  So I am counting May as my 5th month blogging.  As a new blogger, I have searched, studied, and read tips from experienced bloggers and new bloggers alike.  One thing I love about the blogging community is that people are willing to help others out, it's a great supportive community to belong to.

One of the posts I like to read on other blogs are the monthly blogging updates people post on how their blog did, what changes they made, and what goals they have for the month.  I have gotten some great tips as I have read those posts.  I started keeping a monthly spreadsheet to track my numbers, increases, decreases, what I want to focus on, what has worked, what hasn't worked, and what my goals are for the month.  I decided that there were probably other bloggers out there that might get some tips from my notes, so here's my monthly blogging update.  I am planning on doing this every month.  It's a great place to write out my goals....I'm much more likely to stick to them if I actually write them down.

Welcome Basket Makeover

**** This post contains affiliate links. ****

In Spring and Summer, I always get the urge to make some changes in the house and in the garden, to decorate a little bit.  This year I have done a few things outside to make it a little nicer.  We have lived in our house for almost three years and I am finally getting around to displaying something to "Welcome" people to our home.

I found a tin welcome basket at a thrift store last month and as soon as I saw it, I knew that I wanted to spruce it up a bit.  The weather has been so rainy the past few weeks that I decided to wait until it was nice to work on the project so I could display it as soon as it was done.  This weekend was sunny and it looks like it's going to stay that way, so I worked on my project.  I hope you like it and it can give you a new idea for decorating your porch area!

Birthday Cupcakes for a Bulletin Board

Recently at my church, I was given a new assignment on Sundays.  I help out with teaching children 3-11 years old.  To make our Primary room a little brighter, I was asked to decorate our bulletin board.  I didn't take a before picture, but it was gray butcher paper with a bright yellow scalloped boarder.  That was it.  There weren't any decorations....and gray?  That isn't a very happy color for the kids to look at.  I decided to get some new paper for the background, make some cupcakes, and make sure that it was decorated in fun colors.

Fabness Review: Easily Create a Canvas Print

Review canvas print
This post is sponsored by Fabness. I received a free item in exchange for an honest review of the product.

For the past few years, my family has wanted to have a nice family photo of the four of us.  With our busy schedules, there never seemed to be time.  Recently we were together and someone offered to take our photo.  I loved how it turned out and wanted to make a special print for us.

The next day a friend happened to tell me about a canvas print she ordered online from Fabness.  I decided to order one for myself and surprise my family with it.  I received an affiliate code to get a free 10" x 15" canvas.

Love Notes Box

Isn't it nice to know that you are loved?  So often we go through our busy lives not taking the opportunity to tell people how we feel.  I thought of the idea that our family should take turns writing little notes to each other that say nice things.  Then I thought that it would be a good idea to have somewhere we could put the notes.  I decided to decorate a little box, then we can put our notes to each other in the box and we can read them a few times per week.

Top 5 Posts in May

Welcome to June!  At the start of the month, I like to look over the past month and do a round up of the most popular posts.  This month it was hard to just list the top 5 because there were two other ones that were almost as popular!  I had a good time this month creating some fun crafts, going to a few boutiques/expos, reviewing some great products or books, guest posting on another blog for the first time, and I created my very first printable that I posted on my blog.  Click on the picture or the link to see the original post.
