Love Notes Box

Isn't it nice to know that you are loved?  So often we go through our busy lives not taking the opportunity to tell people how we feel.  I thought of the idea that our family should take turns writing little notes to each other that say nice things.  Then I thought that it would be a good idea to have somewhere we could put the notes.  I decided to decorate a little box, then we can put our notes to each other in the box and we can read them a few times per week.

During one of my trips to a thrift store, I found this wooden hexagon box.  I bought it not knowing what I would use it for.  When I had the idea to make a love notes box, I knew that this hexagon box would be perfect.

Supplies needed
Wooden box
White Acrylic paint
paintbrush
decorative paper
sticker
craft glue

My first step was painting the lid of the box and the lower sides of the box.  The lid fits quite tight so i didn't want to paint or put paper where the lid fits down on the wood box.
For the body of the box, I just painted one layer of paint.  It didn't really matter what it looked like because that was where it would be covered with paper.  For the lid, I ended up painting 3 layers of paint so it would be totally covered and even.

Next it was time to look at my stickers and pick the perfect one to decorate the top of the box.  Since it is a box for love notes, I decided to use the sticker that says, "remember you are loved".  I liked what it said, and it went perfect with the paper that I picked out.
The next step was to cut the paper for attaching to the sides of the box.  I put the paper with the pattern side down on the table, placed the side of the box on the paper, traced each side of the box, then used my paper cutter to cut the six pieces out.

To add the decorative paper to the box, I put an even coat of Mod Podge on the side of the box and onto the back of the paper piece I would be attaching.  I placed the paper onto the box and smoothed it out.  I used a small amount of extra Mod Podge on the edges to make sure it was sealed tightly to the box.  When I added the next piece of paper, there was a slight overlap and I smoothed it out with Mod Podge.

Here is the finished box to store our love notes.  I thought it turned out nicely.  It is the perfect size to hold our notes to each other.  We can brighten each others day and show how much we love each other...and we can use our nice new love notes box to do it!
