For the past few months, my husband and I have been slowly working on my craft room.  It is a new space for me to plan, create, blog, and photograph.  He moved my large storage cabinet into the room and I spent some time this week putting my fabric back into it.  As I was doing this, I realized that I needed to be a little more organized with my fabric, so I started searching the internet for some inspiration.

I found some wonderful ideas, and decided to share them with you today.  I found ways to decoratively display your fabric, different storage solutions, a great way to make your own mini bolts of fabric, and new ideas for scrap fabric storage.  My scraps are always floating around at the bottom of different project bags, so it was neat to see ways to store them.

I hope you like these ideas and find some inspiration for your own creative space.  I have made links on the pictures so when you click them it will take you to the original article on the creators website.  There are also text links under the photos that will take to you to the original post.

Craftaholics Anonymous has a beautiful Hanging Display of fabric.

I love these Mini Fabric Bolts from Smashed Peas & Carrots.  You can buy the boards on Amazon here: Ultra Pro Boards, 6.75 X 10.5

What a clever idea for Scrap Organization that Clover & Violet shared.  You can buy the plastic bins with lids here: IRIS Stack and Pull 12.9 QT

Sew Many Ways shared how to File Your Fabric. Storing your fabric in a filing cabinet or file folder boxes protects it from being faded by the sun.

Jen Duncan showed her neatly folded fabrics that she displays in her re-purposed cupboard.

Maybe you don't have a permanent sewing area in your home.  Kreations by Julz shared this Portable Fabric Storage Idea.

Do you just have a few pieces of scrap fabric?  Why not use and Apothecary Jar to display them like Pretty Prudent?

Honeybear Lane has a beautiful crafting space.  I like the Wire Basket Drawers she uses for fabric storage.

Use Plastic Drawers like My Fabric Obsession to organize your fabric by color.

Do you use certain sizes of fabric often?  Cut your shapes/sizes and store them separately to find easily.  I couldn't find an original source for this picture.  The stackable storage are actually scrapbook organizers.  You can buy them here: ArtBin Storage Box or here: IRIS Scrapbook Case.  I personally use the IRIS case for scrapbook paper and love how the handle is situated and that it has clasping tabs to keep it securely closed.

What ways do you store your fabric?  I'd love to hear in the comments below.

Looking for a few fun sewing projects?  You might like to try a quick and easy pillowcase, a fabric pencil pouch, or a super simple burp cloth.

  1. I don't own a lot of fabric, but is it bad that I want to buy some just for how pretty it looks when you store it? Haha.
