Quick and Easy Handmade Card

Quickly make a handmade card that will bring a smile to a friends face

I don't know about you, but I love seeing an envelope from a friend or family member in my mailbox. It's nice to get a card with a little note from them letting me know that they are thinking of me.

I love to be the one who sends a card also. Thinking of when my far away family will get a little surprise in their mailbox or a friend that is having a rough day will smile when opening the envelope and seeing the bright colors of the card I sent makes me smile as well.

You can make one of these easy and quick cards with just a few crafting supplies. In about ten minutes you will have a card ready to write your message on and drop in the mail.

craft room destash challenge

Each month I join with a group of talented crafty bloggers in a de-stash challenge. We have to make a project out of supplies that we already have in our stash. We are able to spend $10 to buy items to go along with our stash supplies, but I didn't have to buy anything. These monthly challenges are helping me use up some of the crafting items I've been hoarding collecting over the years.

oodles of cute stickers in craft stash

I often buy cute stickers when I see them on sale or find some seasonal ones that just hop into my cart. I would love to say that these are all the stickers I own....but I'm not going to lie to you. Of course, I could also say I'm de-stashing my cardstock and decorative papers too. To see the other inventive and unique projects that were made, scroll down to the end of this post.

Fun craft stickers, colorful decorative paper, and glue dots to make a card

Smooth Cardstock - 8.5"x 11"
Pretty scrapbook papers (I usually find some super cute ones at Hobby Lobby)
Stickers for Embellishments
Stamp and stamp pad

Step-by-Step Directions To Make A Cute Card

Cut your cardstock in half the wide way, so you have a piece 5.5" x 8.5". Fold the piece of cardstock in half so the crease is at the top of the card - measuring 5.5" wide and 4.25" tall.

Step by step tutorial to make a card for a friend

Use your stamp to add your message to the front of your card. There are lots of different stamps you can use - hello, thinking of you, just because, miss you.

Trim your decorative paper to be 5.5" wide and about 3" in height. The height will depend on how large the lettering of your stamp are and how thick your decorative boarder are.

use Glue Dots to adhere decorative paper to cardstock

On the back side of your decorative paper, place a glue dot in each of the corners. Put the paper onto the front of your cardstock above the stamped area, making sure the top edge is even with your cardstock.

NOTE: When working with Glue Dots, don't take the dots off of the waxy paper. Instead press the back of your paper to the glue dots and lightly pull back the waxy paper and the dots will stick to the paper. If you try to take the dots off with your fingers, you will squish them and get them stuck and be frustrated (I speak from experience).

cute and simple handmade card

Add your sticker border to the bottom edge of the decorative paper, making sure not to cover up your stamped message. If you don't want to use a sticker border, you can use washi tape or ribbon instead. It's nice to have a little color between the paper and your stamped area.

Place your oh-so-cute sticker (an owl for me) above your sticker border. You can add more than one sticker if you want to, decorate to your heart's content.

  1. This is so sweet. I was recently in the hospital and it was so nice getting cards. I am afraid it may be a dying tradition but a handcrafted card is so special.

  6. My husband is a great one for sending cards, letters and postcards. When we were dating and lived an hour apart, I got something in the mail a couple times a week. Now he sends postcards to friends and family when we travel. They love getting them. Your card is so cute! Maybe I could make a couple (not too girly) cards for him to send. :)
